Battery Switch Reconfiguration

The Tumbleweed battery switch installation had three batteriery switches installed, one of which provided no useful function.
The Skipjackbattery switch installationwas reconfiured to two switches.

Skipjack II Battery Switch Management

Normal Start Procedure

  • Stbd Knob Switch – Position 1 (Bank #2)
  • Port Knob Switch – Position 1 (Bank #3)

Start Main Engine with Dead Main Start Battery

  • Stbd Knob Switch – Position “Both” (Bank #1)
  • Port Knob Switch – Position 1 (Bank #3)

NOTE: Starboard Switch Position #2 connects Perkins start solenoid to House Battery only. For troubleshooting only. Off position prevent engine starting. Port Side Knob Switch

  • Position #1 normal Westerbeke Start Battery (Bank #3)
  • Position #2 used if Westerbeke Start Battery is dead. Return to Position #1 after engine is started.
  • Westerbeke start battery may be charged from the alternator under cruise conditions by placing the Port Side Knob Switch to the “Both” Position. Return switch to Position #1 after cruising.

    Dead House Battery, Engine Won’t Start (because House Battery feeds start solenoid)

    • Stbd Knob Switch – Position “Both”
    • Port Knob Switch – Position 1 (Bank #3)
    • Start engine and return Stbd Knob Switch – Position 1 (Bank #2)
